A mental illness is a condition that can affect how a person thinks, feels, or acts.
These conditions can make it hard for someone to take care of themselves, stay safe, or manage their daily life. In Arizona, there is a special term called Serious Mental Illness (SMI) for people with certain mental health diagnoses who struggle to manage their lives because of their condition.
People with a SMI designation may be able to get help through mental health services, which can include therapy, medication, and support from a team that can help them feel better and stay safe.
